Achievements in illegal building demolition

(1) As Taipei is a modern metropolis, the city government should provide citizens with a safe, comfortable and high-quality living environment. Therefore, Construction Management Office (CMO) demolishes all illegal buildings, regardless of the size, that were built after 1995 whenever detected or reported according to the Taipei City Government (TCG) Illegal Building Management Directions. Also, illegal buildings built before 1994 will be managed at different stages if they do not affect public safety, public transportation, public hygiene, urban landscape and urban planning.(2) The process of illegal building demolition includes the issue and delivery of the CMO’s illegal building notice by the Illegal Building Inspection Team to the Illegal Building Control Section (IBCS) for implementing the demolition. After receiving the notice, IBCS will arrange for the responsible personnel of the area to schedule the execution of the demolition. After receiving the dispatch notice, the assistant will take the demolition team to the site to demolish the detected illegal building. If there is no one in the illegal building, the team will leave a notice to inform the owner of the next demolition date and request the owner to contact the assistant (implemental personnel) to make the relevant improvements. If the owner does not finish the improvements by the next demolition date, forced demolition will proceed. If the owner of the illegal building resists or locks the illegal building to prevent the demolition, the team will notify the local police and work with them in the next forced demolition.(3) Demolition cases managed by CMO during 2007-09 are tabulated below : 2007(households)2008(households)2009(households)Detected and reported cases6,5345,8526,310Demolished cases6,4185,0735,143Demolition rate98%87%82%
