The New Construction Office of the Public Works Department, Taipei City Government, has been recognized again in the "2024 FIABCI-Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Awards". At the awards ceremony held by the FIABCI-Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Awards Committee at the Grand Hyatt Taipei on July 23, 2024, two projects—"Taipei City Nangang District Jingmao Section Social Housing Project" and "Taipei Municipal Neihu Junior High School Comprehensive Building Project"—won awards for Best Planning and Design. Additionally, five projects received awards for Best Construction Quality: "Zhongxiao East Road Section 4 Underground Pathway Entrance Project", "Wanlong Dongying Social Welfare Facilities Project", "Nanmen Building and Market Renovation Turnkey Project", "Taipei City Second Funeral Parlor Phase 2 Renovation Project", and "Taipei City Neihu District Xinhu Elementary School Activity Center Project". Altogether, seven projects were awarded.

The "Taipei City Nangang District Jingmao Section Social Housing Project" is within the Nangang Economic and Trade Park. It is bordered by the school campuses of a senior high school, an elementary school to the northwest, and the organized urban area of the software park to the east. The project features well-designed ground-level urban open spaces and interconnected band-like spaces. Given the densely populated area to the south and the already saturated urban land development nearby, there is a pressing need for community open spaces. From the perspective of the site's context, although there are similar large open spaces, such as school campuses nearby, these campuses are fenced and serve as controlled and isolated open spaces. As a result, the project layout focuses on the open spaces for pedestrians and maximizing their use by considering the overall urban development, thereby enhancing the feasibility of leisure walking in these open spaces.

The "Taipei Municipal Neihu Junior High School Comprehensive Building Project" This project was designed with the image of the "Little Sun over the Lake". The design incorporates techniques that resonate with the environment, promoting airflow, natural lighting, and creating multi-level spaces. It aims to be an energy-efficient green building (obtained the Green Building Label - Gold) that "Makes Way for the Wind". The project includes a two-level underground public parking lot and a three-story activity center with specialized classrooms above ground. This multifunctional building is designed to meet the school's future needs and provide parking for the community. Since its completion, it has served as the new core of the campus.

The "Zhongxiao East Road Section 4 Underground Pathway Entrance Project", in alignment with the development project for the large indoor sports arena in the Taipei Dome and the overall residential and commercial growth in the surrounding area, involves the construction of a new underground pathway. This pathway links various public spaces from north to south, including the Taipei Railway Workshop, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, Taipei Dome, and National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. By integrating sports and arts, it offers the public a completely new recreational experience. Following the "Human-Oriented Design Concept", the project has established a pedestrian-friendly space, mitigating conflicts with ground-level traffic on Zhongxiao East Road and ensuring a pleasant pedestrian environment.

The "Wanlong Dongying Social Welfare Complex Project" involves a comprehensive social welfare complex that integrates resources from five administrative sectors: social affairs, citizen affairs, public health affairs, labor affairs, and education affairs. It offers a diverse range of local social welfare facilities, including an elderly service center, a long-term care institution, a childcare center, a parent-child center, a kindergarten, a daycare center for the disabled, co-living services for the disabled, a community rehabilitation center, and a sheltered workshop. The site has been transformed from closed to open, as it provides regional services and facilities required for community integration and livelihood support facilities for the local community. It has shaped itself as the new core of the neighborhood, catering to regional social welfare needs. It holds the potential to become a model for Taipei’s future endeavors in promoting regional social welfare complexes.

The "Nanmen Building and Market Renovation Turnkey Project" adopts top-down construction to shorten the project timeline, successfully facilitating the early return of vendors while reducing the disruptions caused by noise and dust during construction. Valuable suggestions from local community leaders and residents were taken into account and incorporated after evaluation, making the new Nanmen Building closely connected to local culture.

The "Second Funeral Parlor Phase 2 Renovation Project" was initiated after the completion and opening of the Phase 1 Jing Yang Building Project to meet the public demand for funeral facilities in Taipei City. This renovation includes one Type-A hall, four Type-B halls, four Type-C halls, eight Type-D halls, a forensic autopsy room, a worship hall, a multi-functional space, a mortuary cabinet area, and a passage for deceased transportation. The project also involves underground parking facilities to improve traffic flow in the surrounding area, with careful consideration given to the smooth flow of funeral processions, deceased transportation, and pedestrian and vehicular access. The architectural design aims to break away from the conventional impression often associated with funeral services, while carefully considering the practical needs and feelings of mourners. The appearance features a warm, creamy yellow color palette, reminiscent of the original Jing Yang Building. The use of coating materials resembling architectural concrete and the metal grating resembling twinkling windows with starlight designs creates an ambiance of solemnity and dignity. In the future, this facility will become a primary funeral service location in Taipei City, catering to the various stages of life for people in the metropolitan area, including birth, aging, illness, and death. It aims to make the final chapter of life more complete.

The "Taipei City Neihu District Xinhu Elementary School Activity Center Project" involves a versatile facility combining a sports arena and an arts performance center. Despite limited space and resources, the wind band at Xinhu Elementary School has excelled in various competitions. To provide a better practice environment, the Department of Education, Taipei City Government and local advocates have worked to make this new activity center a reality. The project involves constructing a three-story gymnasium for indoor physical education, team training, and large assemblies of the school. The fourth and fifth floors feature a performance hall, serving as the main venue for the school's cultural and artistic activities. This space will support various large-scale events such as student performances, audio-visual assemblies, and graduation ceremonies and also serves as an excellent training facility for the wind band. It has enhanced the campus environment, offering recreational and gathering space for the community, fostering good neighborhood relations, and serving as a new highlight around Xinhu Elementary School.
