Taipei City First to Promote Private Pedestrian Pavement Subsidies
After arcade floor leveling program, to continue with the effort of constructing a safe and pedestrian-friendly environment, Taipei City Government once again is the first in the country to promote private pedestrian pavement subsidies with grants up to NT$4 million. City-led renovation is also available for applicants if needed. Wen-Ting Kao, Director of Construction Management Office, said public sidewalks have been maintained by the City, but private sidewalks are generally in severely poor condition due to lack of maintenance, causing walking imbalance or tripping accidence. To construct a better and safer passage, the City has particularly planned a budget of NT$20 million grants to encourage community self-renovation, supplement project costs up to NT$3000 per square meters and NT$4 million per application. Communities are all welcomed and encouraged to apply. There is another consideration for old communities with insufficient funding. With the consent of all land owners, community can also present a land access agreement to Taipei City Construction Management Office and express their need to have the City leading the renovation. After accepting the application, Construction Management Office will invite Department of Urban Development, Civil Affairs, New Construction Office, Public Works Department and such to form an assessment team, reviewing the status of individual case and evaluate improvement efficiency and prioritize applications. Director Wen-Ting Kao pointed out this pilot grant program will last for one year beginning year 2015 in January. Subsidy amount, application acceptance period, application process location and other related information will be published in the website of Taipei City Construction Management Office. Welcome all qualified communities to apply. (URL: http: //www.tccmo.taipei.gov.tw/
