To ensure public safety, illegal buldings used as commercial kitchens will be demolished first if not amended before September 30th
To maintain citizens’ living safety, the Construction Management Office (CMO) has established a special project targeting illegal buildings used as commercial kitchens. From August 1, 2015, the owners are notified by mail to make the necessary amendment by a specified date. If amendment is not made by the specified date, the CMO will execute enforced demolition beginning October 1st. Chen Huang-Cheng, the Director of the CMO, said that kitchens illegally built for commercial purposes are often equipped with highly hazardous gas stoves or ovens, which may cause fire, damages to the building or even casualties when accidents happen. Cooking fumes and grease may also pose risks to public health and lead to neighbors’ resentment. Therefore, such buildings will be listed as demolition priority in the second half of the year 2015 to maintain a living environment where public safety and health are ensured. Currently, there are 421 cases listed for monitoring. The CMO has begun notifying the owners by mail from August 1st to make amendment before September 30, 2015. If not, the CMO will enforce demolition begining October 1st, and the demolition fee shall be paid by the owners. It is expected that all demolitions shall be completed by the end of December. For the special project regarding illegal buildings used as commercial kitchens and the illegal buildings listed for monitoring, please refer to the Construction Management Office website.
