Forced Removal on Top Floor’s 3-Unit Home Additions
Taipei City Government announced today illegal additional buildimg in three units on top floor, whether new or used, are considered as endangering public safety, therefore - must be removed.Wen-Ting Gao, Director of Construction and Management Office, said the current principle is to demolish any illegal construction that are presently on-constructing or recently built since 2005. These are the top priority for official investigation to demolish but, if any illegal construction clearly hinders public safety will also be on the removal list. Earlier a fire broke out on Xingzhong Road in Nanggang District was the typical example of illegal 3-unit home additions on top floor. There are 501 illegal constructions accounted for, now down to 275 cases after being treated, with only 266 cases left to process. Considering the interests of vulnerable tenants and cultural custom of celebrating Chinese New Year, Taipei City Construction Management Office has decided to wait until March 20, 2015 to enforce continuously demolition plan. Director Gao further explained: Taipei City Government will be in full support for demolition of illegal constructions that put public safety at risks. Not only would we support Taipei City Construction Management Office’s execution of the plan, if there is an issue of insufficient fund, we would also activate city mayor’s secondary funding plan. As for vulnerable tenants’ new housing arrangement and rental benefits agreement, related offices from the City Government will be in full operations as well. Detailed execution plan will be announced before January 10, 2015.
