Taipei City Government Set to Complete Arcade Floor Leveling Program Covering Length of 170,000 Meters by the end of this year
Since 2002, the Taipei City Government has been carrying out the program of arcade floor leveling starting with the center of stations, tourist attractions, commercial circles and hospitals and followed by radiant, linear and dimensional extensions. The Taipei City Government expects to accomplish the goal of arcade floor leveling covering the length of 170,000 m by the end of 2013.According to the Construction Management Office, after years of effort, most of the street shop owners have realized the convenience and importance of arcade floor leveling, especially for those located in the commercial circles or by main roads; meanwhile, the Construction and Planning Agency and the city and county governments of Chiayi and Changhua also paid visits here to learn from our successful experiences of arcade floor leveling.In 2013,a budget of NTD$10,000,000 had been allocated to arcade floor leveling, lengthening 1100-m along the sections of Baoxing St. and Xingyi St. in Wanhua Dist and covering 5 neighborhoods of Hede, Zhongde, Baude and Xiaode. The construction has been carried out and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.According to the Construction Management Office, besides the completed arcade floor leveling of 170000 m out of the total arcade length of 220,000 m in Taipei, there are still 50,000-m arcade floors situated in lanes and alleys. Since the results of the arcade floor leveling have been well recognized by the public, more continuous improvement is expected by city citizens; therefore, the Taipei City Government will keep up with the good work of the arcade floor leveling project in 2014 to move forward to the goal of being an accessible international metropolitan city.
