7. TCG Inspects Construction Sites for Citizens
The Taipei City Government (TCG) has been conducting safety inspections for construction sites thoroughly to keep citizens’ residences and surroundings safe before the Spring Festival when all citizens make the spring cleaning. In order to give all citizens a peaceful Spring Festival, TCG conducts 2-week safety inspections at 1,057 construction sites from Jan. 14 to Jan. 25 and demands the business operators to suspend or correct their works in which there are some defects jeopardizing public security, environmental health, or site management.“CMO conducts public security inspections at department stores, hypermarkets, and construction sites before the 9-day Spring Festival and creates contact lines with all construction sites for immediate responses in case of any emergency,” Mr. Ding Yuh-Chyurn, Commissioner of Department of Urban Development, said, “CMO also demands fire monitoring in each construction site for public security based on the Fire Department’s fire programs.”Mr. Chang Kang-Wei, Director of Construction Management Office (CMO), further explained top priority such as scaffold, canvas, fencing, safe corridor, construction machine, gutter, sidewalk, waterlogged ground (breeding mosquitoes and flies), etc. Any contractor or supervisor who refuses to correct defects in a construction site or fails in rechecks shall be fined at most NTD 90,000, or the works shall be suspended in accordance with the Building Act. A citizen could dial 1999 to contact CMO for any emergency threatening safety management in a construction site during the Spring Festival.
