2025 Disaster Prevention Community Leadership Forum Successfully Concludes
To raise public awareness of disaster preparedness and highlight Taipei City’s ongoing efforts and achievements in community resilience, the 2025 Disaster Prevention Community Leadership Forum was held on June 30. The event brought together neighborhood chiefs, response team leaders from flood-prone communities, and representatives from various city disaster prevention agencies. Through keynote lectures and experience-sharing sessions, the forum aimed to strengthen community collaboration and enhance Taipei’s overall emergency response capabilities—working together toward a safer and more resilient city. The Taipei Hydraulic Engineering Office (Taipei HEO) stated that the forum was presided over by Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-Chuan. Through this annual gathering, the City hopes to inspire community disaster leaders and formally launch the flood and typhoon preparedness season. The lighting ceremony served as a symbolic declaration of commitment to safeguarding the city from water-related disasters. During the event, the Taipei HEO also presented the results of the 2024 evaluations of Taipei’s self-initiated flood prevention communities. These assessments aim to recognize and encourage continued progress in community-led disaster preparedness. Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-Chuan personally presented trophies to outstanding communities and introduced newly joined partners in the city’s disaster preparedness network. Since 2019, Taipei City has successfully established 19 self-initiated flood prevention communities, with 3 more planned for launch this year. Many of these communities have received recognition from the Water Resources Agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, underscoring the city’s growing strength in grassroots disaster resilience. As extreme weather events become more frequent, the limitations of engineering solutions alone become increasingly apparent. Infrastructure can only go so far in preventing damage and casualties. Only through close collaboration between the public and private sectors in disaster preparedness can we effectively reduce losses and rise to the challenges posed by a changing climate.
