Call for Submissions for Public Art at Ventilation Shaft X, Kalah Station, Wanda Line
DORTS stated that the construction progress of Wanda line Phase I has reached 80%, and it expected to be completed by the end of 2027. The theme of Wanda line public art is “Green.Rhythm,” and the selections of public artwork submissions are being completed one after another. Among these, the second round of selections for Kalah Station ventilation shaft X public art submissions plan, with the theme of “The Rhythm of Kalah” and a budget of NT$9 million, is underway now, and the deadline for submissions is 5PM on September 11. DORTS explained that with the theme of “The Rhythm of Kalah,” plant colors, fruits and the three treasures of Kalah (jasmine, bamboo shoots, and bean sprouts) are to be incorporated into the architectural decorations. For this round of selection, ventilation shaft X public artworks are required to express local cultural spirit and evoke the image of a portal in anticipation of showcasing the natural and cultural characteristics of Kalah on the ventilation shaft and creating a diverse rhythm which combines existing market culture with local cultural spirit. DORTS mentioned that Kalah Station is located at the endpoint of the “vertical axis” of transportation development in Wanhua District, which is a node of convergence between urban areas (Taipei City and New Taipei City) and natural resources (the blue ribbon of the Xindian Riverside). The artwork to be selected this time for the ventilation shaft will become a landmark gateway into Taipei City at Huazhong Bridge. DORTS further elaborated that the route color of the Wanda line Phase I is light green and “Green.Rhythm” is the theme of the public art for the entire line. In addition to the representative plants for each station with green artistic decorations, the public art highlights the characteristics of the green transportation. On August 11 at 3PM, DORTS will hold a briefing session at Department of Rapid Transit Systems, Taipei City Government (No. 7, Lane 48, Section 2, Zhongshan N Rd), in conference room 1 on the 9th floor. All artists who are interested in working together to create artistic ventilation shafts for MRT stations are welcome to attend.
