The nominations for the 60th Golden Bell Awards were announced this afternoon (September 4), with Taipei Broadcasting Station (TBS) garnering seven programs across six award categories. The nominations include “Best Educational & Cultural Program,” “Best Host in an Arts & Culture Program,” “Best Radio Drama,” “Planning and Preparation Award,” “Lifestyle Program Award,” and “Genre Music Programming Award”—a testament to TBS’s creativity, diversity, and excellence.

Nominated for “Best Educational & Cultural Program,” Taipei Soundscape Series, hosted by Ryan, takes listeners deep into the city’s traditional crafts and industries. Through in-depth conversations with artisans and carefully recorded ambient sounds, the program immerses audiences in the delicate artistry of handmade craftmanship.

Veteran host Judie Shih received a nomination for “Best Host in an Arts & Culture Program” with The Golden Years of Zhongshan Hall, where her warm narration brings to life the architectural beauty and rich cultural history of one of Taipei’s most iconic landmarks.

The Memory Express, shortlisted for “Best Radio Drama,” interweaves Taiwanese, Hakka, Japanese, and Mandarin in a series of standalone stories staged like stops along a railway line. With tender narration, train soundscapes, and evocative music, the program captures life’s pivotal moments in a deeply atmospheric way.

Knock, Knock! I am the Name of Tech & SoMe, hosted by Kirsten Huang together with young hosts Hsin-Ju Chen and Bo-Qian Lin of the “Huobanjuyi” collective, cleverly integrates emerging technologies such as AR, VR, and AI with social issues. From a fresh perspective, the program explores the diverse possibilities of public engagement and social action, earning it a nomination for the “Planning and Preparation Award”.

Meanwhile, Wonder in Sizhu, nominated for “Genre Music Programming Award,” is hosted by Mali Liu, who has dedicated herself to weaving traditional Chinese music into daily life. By combining music with literature and layering it with storytelling and English-language segments, she has successfully attracted audiences across different backgrounds.

Notably, Taipei Radio received two nominations in the “Lifestyle Program Award” category this year. Taipei Play and Yo, hosted by Sean Huang, focuses on family-friendly travel. Using on-site recordings and lighthearted narration, the show creates an atmosphere of humor and warmth. Beyond breaking conventional parenting frames, it invites listeners to rediscover the joys of carefree outings. The other program nominated in the “Lifestyle Program Award” category is Relish the Golden Times, hosted by Ania. Through a blend of Mandarin and Taiwanese narration, expert interviews, and on-site explorations, the program paints a vivid picture of Greater Taipei’s cultural landscape, capturing the city’s unique rhythm, charm, and everyday quality of life.

This year’s Golden Bell Awards attracted 434 broadcasters and 1,347 entries competing across 30 award categories, making for an exceptionally competitive field. Jury Chair Li-Yun Tian remarked that each submission demonstrated remarkable highlights and distinct qualities, and the judging process required careful deliberation to identify the subtle yet defining differences that set the finalists apart.
