Press Conference for the 2026 National Day Flag-Raising and Celebration Events — Join Taipei City in “Piecing Together” Magnificent National Day Memories! 3,000 EVA Foam Chairs Up for Grabs This National Day — Registration Opens Sept. 24 at 12:00 PM!
“National Day is all about coming together to celebrate and have fun!” The Taipei City Government hosted the Press Conference for the 2026 National Day Flag-Raising and Celebration Events today (September 24), kicking off the festivities with vibrant, youthful energy! The event featured the debut of Taipei’s original “National Day Double Tenth Dance,” infusing the celebration with the youthful energy of street dance. Mayor Chiang Wan-an joined guests of all ages as a “puzzle master” to assemble this year’s commemorative souvenir, the National Day EVA Foam Chair. Highlights also included a preview of a giant artwork approximately 11 meters in diameter, to be created on Shifu Road by participants with disabilities from the Family of Joy Social Welfare Foundation, and a “National Day Birthday Cake” crafted entirely from cardboard boxes. This Double Ten holiday, everyone is invited to gather at Taipei City Hall Plaza to celebrate National Day together in a spirit of joy and unity. Mayor Chiang Wan-an commented that National Day in Taipei is about more than a formal ceremony—it is a time for people to come together with the city, family, and friends, and to create a National Day celebration that reflects Taipei’s unique character. In recent years, Taipei has gradually introduced dynamic new formats for its National Day celebrations. This year marked a significant milestone, as Shifu Road opened for the first time to host a collaborative public art installation. Participants with disabilities and volunteers from the Family of Joy Social Welfare Foundation took part in the creative process, transforming Shifu Road into a vibrant urban canvas that embodies the spirit of social inclusion. The celebration also embraced the pulse of street dance. Choreographed by the Taipei Street Dance Association, the “National Day Double Tenth Dance” was filmed at a series of notable landmarks across the city—including the Taipei Sightseeing Bus, the Lin An Tai Historical House and Museum, and the City Hall helipad—turning Taipei itself into a stage. In particular, the lineup featured a national breaking athlete set to compete in this year’s Asian Games, highlighting how the city’s younger generation is helping drive the energy of this year’s festivities. Mayor Chiang further noted that this year’s official souvenir, the “National Day EVA Foam Chair,” is 100% made in Taiwan. Custom-manufactured by a local factory in Changhua from design and materials through final production, it incorporates Taipei’s vision of “Sustainable, Inclusive Capital of Hope” alongside classic Double Tenth motifs. The initiative celebrates National Day while supporting local domestic industry. A total of 3,000 chairs will be available through an online registration lottery. He emphasized that while the format of Taipei’s National Day celebrations may change each year, the goal stays the same—making sure everyone can “join in,” turning participation into a shared memory for the whole city.
